In addition to holding the Piccolo/Second Flute chair in the Spokane Symphony and the Second Flute/Piccolo chair in the Boise Philharmonic Orchestra, I enjoy working with enthusiastic students of all ages and levels. In fact, I have a thriving flute studio in Spokane. I have also been a frequent adjudicator for flute competitions in the greater Seattle area.
Music is the most influential force in my life. I love the brilliant and dedicated musicians of all ages who I have learned from and had the honor of performing alongside; the incredible places I have traveled; the overwhelming unity and connection that I have only found while part of an orchestra. In my endless quest to refine my music-making, I am constantly working on myself. Through teaching, I hope to pass on this powerful experience to others and share the enriching power of music.
Music Education History
Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance – University of Washington
Master of Music in Flute Performance – Boston University
I began playing the violin when I was 3 years old and piano when I was 4. When it became time to choose a band instrument in elementary school, I couldn’t decide between flute and saxophone so I chose both! I continued playing all four instruments throughout high school – playing saxophone in jazz band, flute in wind ensemble, and taking private lessons – but flute was my clear favorite. I went on to do my Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance at the University of Washington and then completed my Master of Music in Flute Performance at Boston University. My primary teachers are Iris Ingram, Donna Shin, and Linda Toote.
I have been teaching privately since high school, when I started working with local elementary band students. I have taught in numerous masterclasses and workshops, and coached chamber ensembles at all levels. I now have my own private flute studio in Spokane. I love helping students of all ages and levels grow, develop their skills, and achieve their musical goals.
I am the Piccolo/Second Flute chair in the Spokane Symphony and the Second Flute/Piccolo in the Boise Philharmonic Orchestra. I love playing with both groups! Some of my favorite moments in the past two years have been playing Bartok Concerto for Orchestra, Shostakovich Symphony No. 8, and Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloe. I adore playing the piccolo and soaring above all the other instruments!
I had the opportunity to perform Brahms’ Symphony No. 1 under the direction of JoAnn Falletta. I also played Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with Ken-David Masur in Boston Symphony Hall!
My professional flute quartet, Emissary Quartet, was selected to compete in the live quarterfinal round of the Fischoff International Chamber Music Competition.
As an undergrad, I performed the solo flute part of Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloe under the direction of Ludovic Morlot.
I had the opportunity to travel to Beijing, China, with the University of Washington Wind Ensemble and perform in the National Center for the Performing Arts, “the Egg.”
