Hi, my name is Nerissa Manela and I’m the Chair of Practicing Musician’s Professional Development Roundtable.

I got involved with Practicing Musician in the summer of 2020 when I learned about its opportunity to volunteer alongside music educators and music professionals across the country for a shared educational technology resource. Practicing Musician’s tools help music teachers plan, teach, assess, and learn better.

I’m really excited about our first summer Symposium happening on July 22, which will include presentations by extremely accomplished music educators in the field, including:

                    1. Dr. Frederick Burrack, who is the Director of Assessment at Kansas State University, Chaired the NAfME Assessment Special Research Interest Group and Co-Chaired their work in developing the Model Cornerstone Assessments that accompany the National K-12 Music Standards.
                    2. Dr. Bret Smith, who is the Associate Professor of Music Education at Central Washington University and led the research, development, and piloting of the Ensemble Model Cornerstone Assessments.
                    3. Katie Wardrobe, a music technology trainer and consultant who has led fantastic sessions on easy ways to incorporate technology into what you are already doing in your music curriculum.

We’re also already planning weekly professional development offerings for next school year! I hope you’ll join me to learn more about Practicing Musician and connect with other music educators who are taking the lead in educational technology, music, and innovation!
